History of NHFC
New Hope Friends has been a beacon of Christian service and dedication in the Elroy community for 145 years. Many of the relatives of the first church members who established New Hope still reside in Elroy and the Wayne County area and faithfully attend today.

Early Years of NHFC
On September 6, 1879, New Hope Friends was created. The meeting continued to grow, and on January 3, 1880, numerous requests for membership were received. The site of the first meetings were held on Big Sand Road. This road has since been renamed to Dollar Town Road. A meeting house was built on August 28, 1880 and the land was given by a member. This meeting house served the community for about 40 years.

Current NHFC
Over the years many events took place. The meeting house on Dollar Town Road was relocated and new roads were constructed. In the winter of 1920 the church was dismantled board by board and hauled on two horse wagons to the new location on Highway 70. There have many changes and add-ons to the building. The older church building was transferred across the highway from the current church and is still being used.
