OUR BELIEFS

We desire for all people in the greater Goldsboro area to believe in Jesus Christ our Savior through the Word, belong to the body of Christ, and become more conformed to the image of Jesus. (Believe, Belong, Become)

God:

We believe there is one true and living God. God is our Creator, Savior, Provider, and Ruler of the Universe. He is Light in darkness, He is patient, gracious, righteous, merciful, full of compassion and love. God is truth. God exists and manifests Himself to us in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He (the Word) became flesh and was sent to save mankind from their sin. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and that He works in us to convict us of our sin and to be the guide and helper in our daily life. (Deuteronomy 10:17, 4:31, Colossians 1:16, Luke 3:21-22, Genesis 1:1, Psalm 68:19-20, 50:6 Revelation 19:16, 1 Corinthians 10:13, 1 John 1:5, 4:7-9, 2 Peter 3:9, John 1:14)

Scripture:

We believe the Holy Bible is the word of God and without error. We believe the Bible is truthful, powerful, and everlasting. It is the final authority in which God judges faith and life. We should read the word, keep the word and do the word. (Romans 13:1-2, Deuteronomy 17:19, Luke 21:33, Hebrews 4:12)

Salvation:

We believe that God sent his Son, Jesus, so that the world might be saved through Him. Salvation is offered freely and is a gift of eternal life offered through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that we must confess our sins with our mouths and then a regeneration and renewal of our mind and body comes from the Holy Spirit and is the work of God’s grace and mercy. (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:1-22, Titus 3:5)

The Church:

We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is made of members who have been saved and are seeking a life of service and obedience to Him. The purpose of the church is devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ through teaching, fellowship, worship, music and prayer. We believe that the church should be a light in the community and abroad through compassion, encouragement, and love to others. The church should be faithful in sharing the Word of God through word and deed. (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, 2:42, Ephesians 4:32, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, 1 John 4:32)

The Family:

We believe that God created family as the foundational institution of human society. Family is a group of persons related to each other by blood, marriage or adoption. Marriage is a commitment before God between one man and one woman that is intended to last a lifetime. Marriage demonstrates the union between Christ and His church and is the framework for intimate companionship and the procreation of the human race. (Genesis 1:27-28, 2:20-24)

Baptism and Communion:

We believe that water baptism and communion can be very meaningful outward testimonies of what God has done spiritually within. However, we do not believe that water baptism and communion are necessary for salvation. We readily offer baptism and communion upon the request of members. These observances are symbols of an inward spiritual experience. (Ephesians 2:8)

Open Worship:

Open worship is a special time of prayer in each worship service. It is a time of solitude and/or sharing that gives us the opportunity to focus on our intimate relationship with God. It is a time of prayer and communion where we can be filled and led by the Holy Spirit. If the individual feels led by the Holy Spirit, then they can share with the congregation (i.e. testimony, praise, or special prayer request). (Psalm 46:10, Lamentations 3:28, Galatians 5:25)
